High Performance Walls and Exterior Insulation
Instructor: Justin Wilson, Construction Instruction
This course is presented by
This course will outline the ever increasing challenges presented to the industry from increased air tightness and R-values of wall assemblies, to making a connection to material and design choices, to creating high performance walls that lead to improved water and airflow performance. We will examine key connection points – foundation to wall and wall to attic. Justin will also look at new and existing insulation techniques to safely increase the thermal effectiveness of wall assemblies and identify the increased importance of key air and weather barrier details to maintain long-term durability.

Justin Wilson works with national and regional builders on new construction of residential and commercial buildings and forensic investigations on building sites all over North America to find solutions to problems in the building processes that affect energy, comfort, and durability. He also uses this insight to work with leading building product manufacturers on new product development, product refinements, installation and maintenance guidelines.
John Chapman is the Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering, Erosion and Stormwater Management Certification Program Director at the University of Minnesota. He has extensive experience with natural hazard prediction, erosion prediction, construction site erosion control, shoreline erosion, and storm water quality. He holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in civil engineering and a B.S. in geological engineering. John is a registered professional engineer in Minnesota and Colorado.
