Designing and Building the Residential Exterior Wall Envelope  

Instructor: Peter Kulczyk, Green Code Knowledge

This course will focus on the building codes, energy codes and best practices for the design and construction of exterior envelopes of that will specifically address administrative provisions, alternative materials, ES reports, foam plastic insulation, fiberglass, cellulose, thermal envelopes, R-values, vapor retarders, continuous air barriers, thermal barriers, ignition barriers, fire testing, and other criteria. It will include State of Minnesota amendments to the national codes that Minnesota adopted.

Peter Kulczyk has three decades of extensive experience in the construction and building codes industry as an author, educator and expert in residential building codes, energy codes and green building practices. His past experience includes working on staff with the International Code Council, as an Instructor with the State of Minnesota Building Code Division, as a municipal Building Inspector and in various positions with residential and commercial construction companies in Minnesota. Peter is certified by the International Code Council as a Building Inspector, Plans Examiner, and Green Building-Residential. He is also certified by the State of Minnesota as a Certified Building Official and Certified Instructor.


EPA Lead Renovator Initial Certification Course 

Earn lead certification and also receive contractor continuing education credits! 

Instructor: Brandon Holmes, ZOTA Professional Training

Contractors, Remodelers, Painters, Plumbers, Roofers, Electricians and HVAC Technicians …  enrolling in a lead certification course is a crucial step in protecting your clients, your firm, your workers, and yourself. Becoming certified fulfills the Environmental Protection Agency’s Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) rule, which states that if you are paid to perform renovation, repair, or painting work in houses built before 1978, you must be trained to do so. The EPA can fine up to $37,500 per offense, per day to anyone who is not compliant.

Brandon Holmes is an EPA-approved Principal Instructor for the Lead Renovator Program with ZOTA Professional Training. He is also a Minnesota licensed General Contractor and has been working in the construction field for the last twelve years. Brandon’s favorite projects are to take old homes and find custom solutions to modernize them without losing charm. He also has extensive experience in the medical field and has seen the effects of lead poisoning and job site injuries first hand. He has been instructing for the past fifteen years and has a passion for helping others learn. Brandon brings his knowledge of the craft and real world experience to transform the classroom to real life training and provide students with the most meaningful learning experience possible.

Mission Statement:

The Builders Association of the Twin Cities (BATC) overall mission is to help our member businesses grow through marketing, advocacy and industry connections. Contractor University’s mission is to provide timely and relevant information to contractors and suppliers so that they may meet their continuing education requirements, and develop and apply the knowledge, skills and values to provide the highest quality of service to their clients.

Refund policy:

·      Live courses: No refund/exchanges unless cancellation is made by noon the day before the class.

·      Online courses: Only eligible for a refund within 30 days of purchase, and only if the course or class has not been completed. Refunds are subject to a $30 administrative fee.  

Pricing:

·      Live courses: Unless otherwise stated (such as specialty courses that may be priced differently), the cost is $14 per credit hour.

·      Online courses: Online courses are $12 per credit hour for BATC members and $14 per credit hour for non-BATC members.

Course completion requirements:

·      Live courses: Students will register on-line where information is collected including their name, address, phone number, e-mail, and license number. Students are required to sign-in as they arrive. Student will not be issued course credit if there is no signature on the sign-in sheet.  Student is required to attend the entire class to earn course credit. Class is monitored by the approved BATC/Contractor University coordinator. If a student leaves classroom prior to the completion of the course, course credit will not be earned. Student name and license number will be verified when entering course credit.

·      Online courses: Student must complete the entire online course and successfully answer 70 percentage of the exam questions.
