Energy, Railing and Contractor Best Practices

Course covers drywall systems, railing, recommended construction insurance coverage, construction bonds, insurance paid restoration contracting and workforce audit issues presented by industry experts for product systems, insurance and legal compliance. Students will learn about needed insurance certificates and related audit issues, proper procedure to perform insurance paid contracting, building energy code compliant dry wall systems, surety bonds overview, installing code compliant railing systems and railing options, and understanding worker employment classification and contractor registration requirements

Alden Pearson, P.A.

Since 1997, Alden has been trying cases as lead attorney before the state and federal courts in Minnesota and, more recently, Wisconsin. His phenomenal success rate of cases won or settled generally involve business disputes, construction or real estate subjects. Alden has been educating contractors for over a decade with practical information focused on licensing compliance, customer and subcontractor relations and the use of legal leverage to resolve disputes.

Jim Rosenow, Northstar Associates

Since 1992, Jim has been involved in the roofing industry. Jim started as a commercial roofing estimator/project manager at Central Roofing Company. Four years later, Jim joined GAF. For eleven years Jim took on a variety of roles at GAF, though promotions, from territory manager to regional sales manager. Over those years, Jim built strong relationships with contractors to help build their businesses by providing product solutions and application improvements. Jim moved to the distribution side of the business for four years before joining Northstar Associates as a manufacturer’s representative in 2014. Jim is a MN DOLI accredited instructor and is focused on contractor training.

John Miller, Northstar Associates

John started in the remodeling industry in 1980 as a laborer, installing roofing, siding, windows and doors. In 1989 John’s career went from field installation to distribution and manufacturing for five years. He sold home improvements for four years and in 1998 started with Northstar Associates as a Manufacturer’s representative focused on Exterior Envelope products and solutions. John has been a trainer for national building products manufacturers, distributors and national contractors.

Nick Newton, Newton Bonding

Nick has been in surety for 27 years – he spent the first seven years of his career working for two surety companies and the last 20 as a surety agent. He is Past President of the MN Surety Association, and is currently a Director at Large for the National Association of Surety Bond Producers (NASBP), where he also chairs their Membership Committee. He has previously chaired both their Automation and Technology and their Ethics Committees, and serves on their Government Relations, Small and Emerging Contractor, and Professional Development Committees. He also serves on the faculty of the NASBP Surety School.

Sean Stevens, Carlton Insurance Agency

Before starting in insurance in 2007, Sean owned a remodeling company for 10 years, working in both residential and commercial remodeling. This background allows Sean to truly understand the day-to-day operations of each contractor. Sean was the Construction Department Manager at his previous agency, and is now the President of Carlton Insurance Agency. He has been teaching CE to contractors since 2011, and holds the CRIS designation. (Construction Risk Insurance Specialist).
