Even many normal homes have severe problems during weather extremes. A wet summer or cold or snowy winter can cause issues to surface. In other homes, a problem appears when something is changed—added a furnace humidifier, put in a lawn sprinkler system, installed a set-back thermostat, or insulated the attic. Sometimes the problem is obvious, other times it is more subtle. This room is colder than the others. Come and learn what building science tools and techniques are used to troubleshoot a variety of issues in homes.

Jeff Buch

Jeff Buch has worked 15 years in the construction industry and currently works at Brock White Construction Materials as safety products manager. Jeff is responsible for purchasing, marketing, selling and overall development of safety products for Brock White. Jeff earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Iowa and has earned a 3M Silica Training Certificate.

Dennis Schramel

Dennis Schramel is the business manager for HeatMyFloors.com, a subsidiary of Wright Hennepin Cooperative Electric Association. Since 1996, Mr. Schramel helped pioneer the use of electric boilers and low voltage energy efficient radiant floor heating systems. Over his career, Dennis has been active in various capacities with teaching electrical and mechanical contractors on electric and hydronic radiant floor heating systems. Dennis is also fluent in the understanding and teaching of building heat loss, radiant design and applications. He consults with engineers, mechanical and electrical contractors and builders in providing energy solutions to their customers.

Gail Nozal

Gail Nozal, assistant district manager for S&S Tree Specialists, has more than 25 years of experience in urban forestry and arboriculture. She manages programs and projects as well as presentations on tree care and urban forestry at the local and national level. She has trained hundreds of people on a variety of tree inventory projects. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in urban forestry.

Mark Rehder

Mark Rehder, consulting manager for S&S Tree Specialists, has an extensive background in forestry with 22 years of forestry consulting experience. He has been a certified arborist since 2001. He is also a Minnesota Department of Natural Resources certified tree inspector and is the contracted forester for the City of North Oaks. He manages numerous city shade tree disease programs as well as other critical municipal functions such as working on tree ordinances, approving landscape plans and tree preservation.

Minnesota Construction Law Services is a professional firm providing legal and business services to residential contractors and other owner-operated businesses. Bill Gschwind started the firm in 2012 focusing on residential construction and small business law. He became a lawyer after more than 25 years in the business world to bring common sense and business principles to the implementation of legal services for the construction industry.

Paul Morin

Paul Morin had 15 years as a carpenter framing new homes before becoming a weatherization auditor in the early 90s. Paul worked for more than 12 years for the Center for Energy and Environment diagnosing building shell, combustion spillage and moisture problems in single family and multifamily buildings. He has worked for The Energy Conservatory since 2009 providing technical support and has developed dozens of presentations and webinars. Paul is currently on the board of the Minnesota Building Performance Association.

Greg Halverson

Greg Halverson works for Brock White Company and conducts presentations to engineers, contractors and agencies on new industry standards and products for erosion and sediment control, geosynthetics and concrete. Previously, Greg worked for Propex conducting technical training presentations for geosynthetics and stormwater product sales and also worked for Bonestroo, City of Superior, Arrowhead Regional Development Commission and Natural Resources Research Institute.
